THE Cowboys are tipped to unleash one of the most potent attacking forces in the NRL on the Eels tonight _ Johnathan Thurston.
Initially thought to be another week away from returning from a shoulder injury picked up against the Tigers a fortnight ago, the North Queensland skipper trained behind closed doors yesterday. Media were ushered off the field after less than 10 minutes yesterday morning before Thurston was put through his paces and came through tackling drills unscathed.
The Kangaroos halfback met with surgeon Dr John Maguire at lunchtime yesterday and a final decision on his fitness will be made today. Teams are not required to announce their final lineups until one hour before kick-off. Thurston was forced from the field in the shadows of halftime against the Wests Tigers in round five after an awkward tackle saw teammate Willie Tonga land heavily on him.
Early speculation that the injury was season-ending was allayed by scan results which revealed minor muscle damage in the reconstructed shoulder. The prognosis was two to three weeks out of action, but his renowned healing abilities could have him ready to return just 11 days after sustaining the injury.
Coach Neil Henry was cagey about his star playmaker’s chances but told media on the sidelines yesterday morning that the injury couldn’t get any further aggravated and with a Test jersey to play for there was every chance he could take the field. Read more
Gretchen Rossi Ordered to Court, Must Pay Jay Photoglou
Gretchen Rossi was almost placed in handcuffs yesterday, but not for the reasons this dirty Real Housewife probably would like.
After failing Rossi failed show up for a court appearance on Thursday, a judge issued a bench warrant for her arrest. However, he held it for a week and ordered the reality star to show up on Thursday, April 29.
From what does this mess stem? Rossi was scheduled to be in court for a debtor examination related to money she owes ex-boyfriend Jay Photoglou. The cash results from a lawsuit she filed against him that was thrown out. Since then, Photoglou has sued the Real Housewife of Orange County for slander.
A judge awarded Jay $18,900 and Photoglou wants to collect.
“A lawyer from the firm Gretchen hired showed up in court and asked for a continuance because Gretchen’s lawyer was unavailable,” said Jay’s lawyer, Orlando Castano Jr. “Gretchen didn’t show up and the judge then issued a bench warrant for her arrest, holding it to give them the opportunity for her to come to court. She must show up next Thursday at 8:30 a.m.” Hilton Hater
